I enjoyed this little meditation on the nature of art and webcomics. Food for thought, if nothing else, and a nice reminder that while there are conventions within cartooning as there are in other arts, ultimately just about anything you can do with a medium to get your point across is fair game. It’ll all come down to preference in the end, and some intangible alchemy of content and style.

Computers are a great wildcard in art. While I spend much of my time fighting to get the computer to properly display my traditionally created pieces, it also simplifies some of my corrections and effects. Likewise, I enjoy my wife’s clever scanner art, or the digitally altered photos my friends create–things that would not be possible (or at least vastly more limited) without the computer.
